Why an Electric Boat?

Dragonfly is an electric boat (a 22 foot Duffy) and has zero emissions. It uses 16, six volt deep cycle batteries. The propeller is mounted on the rudder which gives it unique maneuverability. We usually cruise at five or six mph and have a range of about 6 hours running time. Our draft is only 29 inches, but a full keel adds stability.

Dragonfly is so quiet that we can glide close to Osprey nests on pilings or Blue Herons fishing from the reeds without disturbing them at all.  In the quiet waters, we can hear ducks and geese nearby or surprise a sunbathing turtle. There are actually alligators up the Trent River, but we rarely see them. Perhaps they see us?
